Blurred Central Vision – Eye Problems
Blurred central vision is also known as macular (MAK-you-ler) degeneration. Since it develops slowly and without any discomfort, it’s important to see your eye doctor as soon as you notice any signs of this condition.
Macular degeneration
Eye vision problems starts with difficulty reading small print, distant street signs, or seeing other things in your central field of vision.
Problems with Eye Sight
The blurring starts when small deposits grow and blood vessels enlarge on the macula (MAK-you-luh), the portion of the retina (REH-tin-uh) responsible for central vision. Your eye doctor can test for the disease, possibly detecting it before you notice any deterioration of vision. People over age 50 should have an annual eye examination.
Macula Degeneration Treatment
Macular degeneration can sometimes be treated with laser therapy to prevent or slow down the loss of vision. If changes occur in your vision, see your doctor right away. Consult an optometrist or ophthalmologist for more information.
